About This Tour

This special walking tour will focus on the Westside Trail, which is scheduled to open in late 2017. Construction crews have begun pouring concrete for the multi-use trail. Other exciting developments, such the Monday Night Brewing announcement are drawing significant attention to this area. The ultimate purpose of this tour is to allow those who are interested to get a first-hand look at the construction of this new trail as well as the neighborhoods that surround it.

  • 13:00, Kroger City Center on Cascade Rd. (restroom stop)

    • History of Atlanta as it relates to railroads and how this made the Atlanta BeltLine possible
    • Atlanta BeltLine Project, from 1999-present
    • Updates and close-up views of the construction on the Westside Trail from University Ave to Washington Park
    • The neighborhoods along the Westside Trail
    • Update on the transit component of the Atlanta BeltLine
    • Update on T-SPLOST and MARTA Sales Tax referendums
      * Steve Saenz is the founder of Urban Explorers of Atlanta. He is also a bus tour guide for the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership. Since 2014, Steve has led dozens of bus tours and over 100 walking tours throughout Atlanta including three multi-week treks around the entire 22-mile corridor. Steve is passionate about the Atlanta Beltline. You can expect to gain new insights about the HISTORY of Atlanta, CONSTRUCTION updates and many wonderful places to EAT throughout Atlanta.
