ABOUT HERITAGE PARK
Heritage Park is a 105-acre nature preserve located in Smyrna, GA. Its 1.7-mile walking trail has an elevated boardwalk over wetlands, travels through forests along Nickajack Creek, passes the ruins of Concord Woolen Mills, and is near the historic Concord Covered Bridge.
Our hike, which will be lead by Jonah McDonald, author of Hiking Atlanta's Hidden Forests, passes the ruins of the historic Concord Woolen Mill, destroyed by Union forces during the Civil War because it produced uniforms for the Confederate Army. At the far end of this trail is a nice waterfall near a quiet country lane and covered bridge. The trail follows the path of Nickajack Creek with very little elevation change. Though it is not a strenuous hike, there are beautiful things to see at every turn. Our total hike will be 3.5 miles and will take about two hours of walking, plus stops and picnicking in the woods. Bring a picnic lunch, and come prepared to hear stories of the Civil War and facts about the flora and fauna of the area from Jonah,
